ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose suffered a pair of setbacks to visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival Merrimack this afternoon at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Golden Knights (9-25/7-17 NE-10) fell 11-4 in the first game and 4-3 in the finale.
Merrimack broke open a 5-4 affair by pushing across six runs in the sixth inning of the opener when the Warriors sent 10 batters to the plate. Junior second baseman Jamie Millett did most of the damage with a base clearing triple.
Junior left fielder
Katie Ives belted a three-run homer in the second that put the Golden Knights up 3-2. However, Merrimack scored three times in the fifth to preview their breakout sixth inning. Junior right-hander
Nicole Traylor finished 2-for-3 with an RBI triple in the home half of the fifth that made it a one-run game, while Ives wound up 2-for-3 as well to pace the Golden Knights attack.
Junior shortstop Kristen Lemay, sophomore center fielder Monique Gosselin, junior catcher Kara Melillo, and senior third baseman Casey Conetta had two hits each for the Warriors.
In the finale, Saint Rose took a 3-1 lead in the third when the Golden Knights scored a pair of unearned runs. However, Merrimack responded with three runs in the fifth to go up 4-3. Sophomore right fielder Amanda Zanni tripled and eventually scored on an error, before Gosselin smacked a two-run shot over the left field fence.
Gosselin and Zanni both finished 2-for-3 with a run scored for Merrimack, while Saint Rose sophomore left-hander
Sarah Arbogast allowed only one earned run on six hits over the distance.

Up next, Saint Rose returns home Tuesday to host preseason league favorite Le Moyne. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm. Meanwhile, Merrimack gets back on the diamond Tuesday as well with a 3:00 pm date at conference rival Bentley in Waltham, MA.
