HORTON MAKES SECOND STRAIGHT NCAA REGIONAL APPEARANCE

Last Week: 5/3-5/10: Horton tied for 37th at NCAA Atlantic/East Regional
Head Coach: Josh Jennings

Week in Review: The College of Saint Rose sophomore Matt Horton was one of 108 competitors that concluded play Wednesday at the 2010 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Golf Regional…The 54-hole event, which featured 20 teams and eight individuals, was held at the par-72; 7084-yard Cobb Course at The Resort at Glade Springs.

Horton wound up with a five-over-par 77 in final round action…He completed the back nine first behind a 39 and dropped in a pair of birdies on the front nine en route to a 38…His 54-hole total of 235 (79-79-77) put him in a tie for 37th place overall and is the lowest total since Jamie Bacon (’09) fired a 243 in the 2006 NCAA Northeast/East Super Regional that was held at the Speidel Golf Club in Wheeling, WV.

Horton carded a 79 Tuesday afternoon after playing the first nine holes one-over-par with a 37, which included back-to-back birdies on holes four and five…The back nine proved to be more difficult, however, as Horton finished with a 42 after a bogey on 17 and a double-bogey on 18.

Horton, who made his second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance last week after taking 95th in last year’s event, turned in a seven-over-par 79 Monday…Horton combated a pair of double-bogeys on each side by recording four birdies on the day to keep himself within striking distance…He began play on the 10th hole and thus made the turn with a 39 before carding a 40 on holes 1-9.
