ALBANY, N.Y. -
The College of Saint Rose Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted "Out of the Knight" on Tuesday evening. Student-athletes led a panel discussion about mental health.
The event, geared to all members of the student body and staff, addressed topics such as depression, anxiety and stress.
SAAC organized the panel, which was comprised entirely of Saint Rose student-athletes, to spread awareness of mental health and how important it is to stay healthy and to seek help when needed. The committee also wanted to inform students that "It's ok not to be ok."
"Tonight's 'Out of the Knight' panel discussion on mental health and student athletes is a project that was completely student-driven and came out of our SAAC," said
Karen Haag, Assistant A.D. - Senior Woman Administrator/Head Women's Basketball Coach. "I am so proud of the efforts of our student-athletes in putting this event together, and in their willingness to help reduce the stigma associated with mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression. We also appreciate the support of Counseling Services and Sabrina Balbuena for their support and participation. The organizing committee did a terrific job planning this important panel."
The Saint Rose Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses.
