ALBANY – The second annual
“Upstate Challenge” between The College of Saint Rose and Le Moyne College is set to begin this Wednesday, September 12 in conjunction with the women's soccer match between the two schools. Kickoff is set for 5:30 pm at
Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
The “Upstate Challenge” is a rivalry series that utilizes a system that awards one point to the sports program that wins the season series. If a sports team competes only once during the regular season, the winner of the single game is awarded one point. In the case where teams compete multiple times during the regular season, a point is awarded to the team winning the overall series. When a series is split, one half-point is awarded. When teams only meet during the
Northeast-10 Conference Championship, the team with the highest finish is awarded one point.
Collectively, the two institutions that have numerous commonalities will square off in 14 sports in which they compete head-to-head in the regular season or during the NE-10 Championship. The winner of the series will be awarded the
“Upstate Challenge” trophy for the 2012-13 academic year.
A year ago, the Golden Knights won the overall series with 7.5 points, as opposed to 6.5 points for the Dolphins. Saint Rose earned
"Upstate Challenge” points in men's basketball, women's basketball, men's cross country, men's golf, women's soccer, men's swimming and diving, women's swimming and diving, and women's volleyball.
Meanwhile, Le Moyne earned
"Upstate Challenge" points in baseball, men's basketball, women's cross country, men's lacrosse, men's soccer, softball and women's tennis.
